Development of music performance for children

Hello, I thought some of you may be interested to read about a project I'm working on. As artist in residence for Imaginate I am currently developing a music performance for children aged 8+ called Ditto. This piece for four musicians will be on in January next year at North Edinburgh Arts Centre and the Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh also). It's an experimental piece exploring silence and the spaces between sounds. I have just had a week of development with my team and written about it on my blog. Please follow the link below to read about all the exciting things that happened and to read more about my time with Imaginate.

Thanks, Greg

Just been reading your blog, Greg - absolutely fascinating. Hope to catch "Ditto" next year. Good luck with it!

Thank you Sarah! It's a funny thing writing a blog as quite often I'm not sure if anyone is reading it! So it's always lovely to hear positive comments. It's been such a fortunate and fascinating time for me, doing my residency with Imaginate and I'm so excited about Ditto. If you come along please come and introduce yourself to me. I feel certain that we've probably met at the Imaginate festival or elsewhere but it would be good to properly chat. Hope things are good with you?

That's precisely why I thought I'd let you know that it is being read - or certainly I've read it. Yes, the Imaginate residencies are really exciting. I wish I didn't live so far away - Cardiff - as I'd really liked to have seen more of the pieces in development. Will definitely introduce myself if I manage to get to see Ditto - or, if not, at next year's Imaginate Festival. Happy Festive Season and hope you're surviving the big chill!

MANIFESTOS (or, Tell Us What You Really Think)

There's a venerable tradition of artists' manifestos, which always seem to pop up especially at times of great cultural and political change (post WW1 dadaists; them 60s experimenters...) so, given that we are living through times of extraordinary change right now, I thought I'd start a thread for MANIFESTOS RELATING TO MAKING ART FOR CHILDREN.Don't have one?  Nor did I until 24 hours ago, then I decided I'd write one.So get going, and it'd be grand to see them here...See More

On encouraging young audiences (or their parents) to take risks

http://www.itstheforest.comWhy should parents bring their children to see something like my company's dance piece 'The Forest'?When it’s half term and I scan the pages of the ‘what’s on for children’ sections of magazines I want to know that the experiences I choose for my children will be, to be honest, worth the effort, that they will enjoy it, that they will be enriched in some way, in any way, by what they’ve seen.I want to take them…See More
