Hello there

I am developing a new piece of devised theatre for young audiences exploring the relationship between light and dark through the story of Persephone and the Underworld. The working title is Three Tiny Seeds.

We received Arts Council funding for two periods of R&D alongside some workshops in school to explore how the design, music and narrative of the piece are to be developed. The first R&D period happened in Sept '11 at the Unicorn Theatre as part of their Emerge programme and gave us loads to work from.

I am now looking for another venue who might be willing to support the second phase of this process. I have a very small budget for venue hire but was wondering whether anyone could recommend a venue who might be interested in supporting this crucial second stage. Working with a creative and production team including a designer, musician, dramaturg and performers we are hoping this second, fuller phase will begin to realise the piece with more emphasis on a participatory element to the piece. We'd love to have a sharing at the end of the week where we can explore the audience entering a more installation based performance environment.

Ideally, dates would be between Feb-March 2012. Any thoughts, inspirations or ideas are most welcome.

Thanks
Emma Higham

MANIFESTOS (or, Tell Us What You Really Think)

There's a venerable tradition of artists' manifestos, which always seem to pop up especially at times of great cultural and political change (post WW1 dadaists; them 60s experimenters...) so, given that we are living through times of extraordinary change right now, I thought I'd start a thread for MANIFESTOS RELATING TO MAKING ART FOR CHILDREN.Don't have one?  Nor did I until 24 hours ago, then I decided I'd write one.So get going, and it'd be grand to see them here...See More

On encouraging young audiences (or their parents) to take risks

http://www.itstheforest.comWhy should parents bring their children to see something like my company's dance piece 'The Forest'?When it’s half term and I scan the pages of the ‘what’s on for children’ sections of magazines I want to know that the experiences I choose for my children will be, to be honest, worth the effort, that they will enjoy it, that they will be enriched in some way, in any way, by what they’ve seen.I want to take them…See More
