About the Future Playground

The Future Playground is a community of people who are creating the future of art for children. It's a place for debate, for exchanging ideas, sharing knowledge, asking questions, and spreading information.

It's a place where we can come together and talk about how to ensure that art for children - whether in theatre, dance, visual art, music, writing or any other form - can always be as brilliant, challenging, rigorous and beautiful as art for anyone else.

Development of music performance for children

This piece for four musicians will be on in January next year at North Edinburgh Arts Centre and the Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh also). It's an experimental piece exploring silence and the spaces between sounds. I have just had a week of development with my team and written about it on my… Continue

MANIFESTOS (or, Tell Us What You Really Think)

There's a venerable tradition of artists' manifestos, which always seem to pop up especially at times of great cultural and political change (post WW1 dadaists; them 60s experimenters...) so, given that we are living through times of extraordinary change right now, I thought I'd start a thread for MANIFESTOS RELATING TO MAKING ART FOR CHILDREN.Don't have one?  Nor did I until 24 hours ago, then I decided I'd write one.So get going, and it'd be grand to see them here...See More
